Excitement 2023

A few days ago the exciting Dakar Rally came to an end, with fantastic dune landscapes, unusual waterspouts and a spectacular end to the event, especially in the motorcycle section. We have enjoyed it very much.

The excitement must have caught a plane to get to Europe right away, because this year's Rallye Monte-Carlo has been reaaally gooooood, both inside the road and on its shoulders...

And we continue talking about excitement, because we are at the gates of the Nuremberg Toy Fair, where we will learn more about the plastic novelties for this year. We'll tell you soon!!

Nuremberg Toy Fair 2023

Here's the SpotModel team broadcasting live, announcing the highlights of the Spielwarenmesse 2023 where the main manufacturers of plastic scale models show us their next releases... here we go!!!!

Italeri has made us crazy, they are possibly the most tantalizing with their novelties: in the coming months we will see a second version of the Lancia Delta in 1/12 scale that will be delivered with the Sanremo livery, and the... Lancia Stratos!!! That's crazy!!! There are also reeditions of several trucks, and the return of the police VW Golf, the Bugatti Royale Napoleon, ...

Tamiya reissues the Porsche 935 Martini in 1/20 scale, and have also shown the Gordon Murray Automotive GMA Type 50 in 1/24 scale. They have not yet determined the exact date on which the product will reach SpotModel shelves, but we finally have at least a price tag, so you can start reserving NOW all the units you need for yourself, your friends, your neighbors or even your grandmother. XD

Revell has basically shown us just reeditions, but some of them VERY interesting like the Jaguar E-Type in 1/8 scale, the Mercedes-Benz Schlingmann Unimog U1300L TLF 8/18 firefighter, or the highly coveted Volkswagen Corrado, to name just a few of their stuff.

Nunu has FINALLY allowed us to touch, smell and caress the Lotus Honda 99T in 1/12 scale!!! The release date of the product to the market has been delayed for a thousand and one different stories, but now we are very very close indeed to having it on our workbenches.

SpotModel, for those who want more

A week ago we brought you news about the novelties that have been presented at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, some really tasty and interesting. However, some modelers are dissatisfied: they are only a few novelties, or this car or that motorcycle or truck has not been released... Clearly you can't please everybody, since scale modeling "maniacs" will always want more. But do we really have room at the desk or at home for more? XD

If so, there is nothing to worry about, because here in our warehouse we see how the range of novelties grows every week and the quality of the stuff is better every time. The skeptics or the insatiable just have to take a look at the list of novelties in the SpotModel newsletter, which is becoming more and more extensive, more interesting and brings us products that surprise us daily for their excellence.

So what do we have here that hasn't been seen at Nuremberg? Well, the announcement of Komakai's new book on the Audi R8 LMS Evo; the Decalcas paint masks for the Ford GT40 by Meng in 1/12 scale and for the K3 by Nunu; Shunko decals for renewing the Lotus Ford Type 72 kits in both 1/20 and 1/12 scale and for the BT50 in 1/20; the reissues of some Ferraris by MFH in 1/12 scale; or the new materials from AK Interactive, for starters.

The boss, the main consumer of SpotModel "candies", says that there's still room for more products on his workbench. How can this be possible?? How big is his table...? XD

Lotus Ford Type 72D

One day like any other, the boss was wasting time in front of the computer searching for who knows what, and then he felt in love. It was a picture of Emerson Fittipaldi flying at the British GP at the wheel of a gorgeous, slim, slender, daring, and brutally beautiful black machine. That incredible machine was the Lotus Ford Type 72D, without any doubts one of the most beautiful racing machines ever built (well, that was a bit of sucking up to the boss...).

Since "the crush" happened, the boss has dedicated himself to compiling information about that precious Formula 1, travelling thousands of kilometers to be able to see and touch several of those chassis, and building all the scale models he could (MFH, Tamiya, Ebbro, SMTS, Studio27, Provence, etc.). And... what happened this week? Well, the boss has mysteriously disappeared, no one knows where he is. And it is also not known why there is an imbalance in the stock of the Lotus Ford Type 72D in 1/8 scale by Pocher that has just arrived these days. Coincidence...?

If you are a maniac like the boss, we recommend that you make room on your workbench and urgently get your Pocher, because they are a limited series of just a few units, which will be available for a short time, and once assembled it will look awesome in the middle of your living room. Right?

Test 2023

The official tests of the Formula 1 pre-season will begin in Bahrain this weekend, in order to take advantage of the start of the season and reduce operational costs, since with current fuel prices it is not wise to waste resources. And thanks to current technology, these tests can be seen on TV and on the Internet practically anywhere on the planet. Great!!! We love that the top category of racing motorsports is starting back again.

While the Formula 1 guys are testing their new toys, what are we going to do? Well, with one eye we will be looking at the screen and with the other we will look at the scale model that we have on the workbench, with one hand we will be timing each lap while with the other we will be sanding parts, with one ear we will be listening to the commentators while with the other we will pay attention to the purring of the sandpaper on our pieces... And what will we do with our feet? We will use them to run and see what's new at SpotModel! XD

How much would you pay for a Mercedes 300 SLR "Uhlenhaut Coupé" knowing that only 9 chassis were manufactured in total, and that only two of them were converted to the coupe version? The last of them was sold for 135 million euros, which is not bad, not bad at all. It is a pity that for some of our "scale" wallets these figures are slightly unreachable, because it cannot be denied that the 300 SLR is one of the most elegant, interesting and beautiful cars to come out of the Mercedes factory.

Now, how much would you pay for a Mercedes 300 SLR "Uhlenhaut Coupé" produced by Model Factory Hiro in 1/12 scale, knowing that just a bit over 100 units will be produced? Will its "scaled" priced be compatible with our wallets? Surely with a little effort it will be.

On the snow

This weekend takes place the largest event in European civil scale modeling, at the beautiful town of Jabbeke in Belgium. Under the title of Jabbeke on the road we, the best / most handsome / friendliest scale modelers from all over Europe, will meet to enjoy a good chat, fresh beer and lots of snow!!!

In fact, the organization is thinking of changing the name of the event to Jabbeke on the snow instead. But it's not a problem, surely some modeler brings in his 1/24 scale snowplow and solves the problem... XD

While a good part of the SpotModel team attends the event, the rest of the staff will stay working hard for your order to be processed so you can receive all the novelties, such as the interesting decals by LB Production, the detail-up sets made in 3D printing by Falcon Scale Models or the new colors tones by Number Five.

Hangover

We're already back from our trip to Belgium, from an unforgettable weekend surrounded by many modeling friends and several thousand models. Yes, you have read it right, several THOUSANDS of car, motorcycle and truck models, in all their scales.

It is impossible to tell in just a few lines everything we have seen, enjoyed, talked about, laughed, drunk... so we are going to summarize it all in one word: Awesome!!!

While the trip "hangover" wears off and lets us resume several tons of pending issues, we will do our best to sit at the workbench and think about what builds we will be taking to Jabbeke next year. Because of course, we will be there.

Komakai

A few days ago during the event in Jabbeke we chatted with many people. But with many, many, MAAANY people. We talked so much with them that when we got back we had to put a cast on our almost broken tongues...

Among all the subjects we talked about in the meeting, there was a topic that heavily caught our attention: most of the participants didn't know Komakai's books. Can you believe it? Dragons

The dragon is a mythological being that is present in cultures all around the world. In some of them they are huge beasts that spit fire while emitting sounds that make the body hair stand on end. Can you imagine it?

We are not dedicated to reproducing fictional dragons but real world vehicles, although some of them have certain similarities... Or perhaps the Ducati Superleggera V4 with the titanium racing exhausts developed by Akrapovic do not roar and throw flames like the best of dragons? XD

Here we already have, by the hand of Decalcas, the Tamiya Ducati Superleggera V4 detail-up set that includes honeycomb grilles for the exhaust, different types of screws for replacing the metal ones supplied by Tamiya, the dry clutch with open lid for competition, the brake lever guard and more details that will leave you speechless. What will the product include besides carbon decals? Well, 3d printed parts with the highest quality and detail available nowadays, among which we will get the lower casing that covers the exhausts, the necessary parts to eliminate the rear view mirrors and the license plate, all the springs, the lambda probe, the plates, a base to display the set, and the exhausts themselves. Back in the days when a paddock was just a little more than a horse stable, when the team names were written in chalk on the wall, when they drank a few beers before qualifying or smoked a couple of cigarettes before putting on their helmets, there were really authentic and slightly crazy people who spent hours and hours around some machines whose effectiveness and speed half of the time were the result of a daring idea that an engineer had while peeing.

One of those machines was the Ferrari 312 F1, which was on the track from 1966 to 1969 (something that would be completely unthinkable nowadays), with its white classic "spaghetti" exhausts on the sides of the engine, its twelve intake trumpets, and some incipient spoilers that today may seem ridiculous but that at those times they were definitely top-notch.

Tameo has focused on the 1969 chassis used by Chris Amon in the British GP, which had a curious rear wing that nowadays it would be for sure forbidden by current regulations.

Pit stop for PrintLab

SpotModel's PrintLab has been running non-stop since 2019, every single day of each year, bringing digital decal prints of the designs of the most intrepid scale modelers to all parts of the planet.

This service, designed and developed exclusively by SpotModel, requires a quick pit stop: we need a few weeks to make a leap forward, to tighten some nuts, change slicks, replenish liquids (literally) and make a few small adjustments in our complex systems.

What do we expect to happen when we come out of the pits? Well, a notable increase in the saturation and color of the decals, more printing accuracy, an even whiter whites and even thinner decals. Quite a challenge for SpotModel engineers and mechanics, don't you think?

In the meantime, of course you can continue sending your designs to SpotModel's PrintLab, and you will even be able to purchase any design that is already validated and published, only that due to the ongoing maintenance both design validation and printing will be interrupted for a few little weeks, but... what are a few weeks in the long and patient life of a scale modeler?

The strategy to enter the pits is going to be key, but we are sure that it will translate into a glorious victory.

Attention!!! Are we all really paying attention? Sure? Perfect, because we don't want anyone to miss the news: the Porsche 911 991 GT3 RSR by Nunu is coming, with the legendary "pink pig" livery with number #92 at the 2018 Le Mans. Yes, you read it right!!!! The boss, who is crazy about anything that has a Porsche label on, says he wants half a dozen to whet his appetite. It is scheduled to arrive in Europe for the end of this summer and soon we will open the product so that you can book as many as you want, in case you are even crazier than the boss... XD

At the moment we don't have firm news about third party products for this scale model, but we've already been told a few things: Decalcas is already preparing several decorations and several upgrades that will surely become essential in your assembly, Komakai has already prepared a volume with pictures of the actual car, Number Five is already formulating the exact color... We're sure we'll be announcing them shortly. Great!!! We are going to have a veryyyyy cool winter.

Kevlar

We are going to talk a little about kevlar, a great invention widely used in the world of motor racing. This material has some very interesting characteristics such as its lightness, resistance to breakage, and its easy machining. Embedded in a resin, it allows the manufacturing of bucket seats, helmets, mufflers, fuel tanks, all kinds of parts and body sections, and lots more. A real wonder.

But, when the scale model of the last racing mega rocket arrives at our workbench is when the problems begin, since this material is not easy to recreate in scale with convincing realism... Luckily today it is easier to simulate kevlar thanks to the decals by Decalcas, Scale Motorsport or Studio27, to name a few. And who has also finally taken a step forward is Model Factory Hiro, from whom we have recently received his references with different klevar patterns. Well, I'll take two of each!!!

MP4/2C

A few weeks ago we told you some things about the impressive McLaren Honda MP4/4 and today it's the turn of one of its predecessors: the McLaren TAG Porsche MP4/2C. It was the third evolution of the MP4/2, characterized by some changes in aerodynamics, which helped McLaren to take second place in the 1986 constructors' championship, with Prost and Rosberg at the wheel. Today it is unthinkable that a Formula 1 model remains collecting victories in the championship for 3 consecutive seasons, hence the huge importance of the MP4/2.

Italeri announced a few months ago that they were working on a 1/12 scale reproduction of the McLaren TAG Porsche MP4/2C, and today they have confirmed that the product is finished and will arrive at SpotModel in the next few days, from where we will be delighted to manage your order and send you one home. There are no specific third party products yet to improve the model, but you can accompany it with the volume 12 of the Ultra Detail Guides series by Komakai, the specific colors by Number Five and the set of seat belts for Formula 1 by Reji Models.
