Les Charlots

In the 1960s, the musical group "Les Charlots" was born in France and first became known for their songs and then for their films, which had a curious comic style full of continuous jokes.

One of the most famous films was "Le Grand Bazar", which was promoted in a beautiful Porsche 911 in the 1973 Tour de Corse, characterized by including the caricatures of Les Charlots on the sides of the car, as well as the name of the movie in big blue letters.

This curious and striking vehicle has caught the attention of the guys at Decalcas who have just announced to us that the livery will be available shortly, to be used on the Porsche 911 RS by Fujimi. It's always good to put a little humor in your models, right?

In the early years of the Paris Dakar rally, only a handful of brave and crazy people accepted the challenge of running the toughest endurance rally in the world. In the 1984 edition, an impressive MAN machine, sponsored by Rothmans, gave support to the Porsche 911 Carrera 4x4 (953) that would win the Dakar. A few years have passed since that time and the imposing appearance of the all-wheel drive super truck with its eight enormous wheels still leaves us speechless.

Well now comes the good stuff: DAB Models announces the release in 1/43 scale of the model of this beautiful truck. This product is made with 3D printing equipment and is designed for advanced modelers looking to go further with their scale models. They include the decals with the Dakar numbers for years 1984 and 1985, and once assembled it measures almost 24 cm long!!

Marsh Models

For some time now the boss had been planning to put together a 1/43 scale model from an English manufacturer unknown for a vast majority: Marsh Models. Located at the south of England, they focus their production on Can Am and Le Mans racing cars. Basically a lot of McLarens and a lot of Chaparrals, the occasional Porsche and Ford, and a few other four-wheeled delights from a glorious motor age. Many of them are also machines with truly extraordinary designs!!

And what can we find inside one of their boxes? Well, there are good quality resin parts, as well as the decals, and from time to time some white metal pieces and turned metal pieces, all fitting very correctly. And in a flash, the model is assembled and there's a smile on your face. As expected, the boss has already assembled one and now he wants more...

To keep the boss entertained we have decided to add Marsh Models products to SpotModel. Intake trumpets

With a grille on top, with a pad, hidden under a plastic dome or free like the wind that runs through them, intake trumpets can be found fitted in many ways. Some are made of polished steel, others are made of light aluminum, and there are also some made of carbon...

They are important and very visible parts in competition engines of all eras, and it is quite common that plastic manufacturers do not pay too much attention to these beautiful and characteristic parts. What does this translate into? That the engine that we have just finished building, packed with cables, screws and nut details that we have made with so much love, is overshadowed by some out-of-scale, mediocre, undetailed and dull intake trumpets.

Luckily we can offer you some new products that will solve this important problem. Thus, for example, Model Factory Hiro has developed the set of intake trumpets, injectors and distributor for the DFV engines in 1/20 and 1/12 scales, all executed in turned metal, white metal and photo-etched parts. And on their side, Falcon Scale Models has done the same but customized for the Lotus type 79 by both Tamiya and Hasegawa, solved with 3D printing, and with a very interesting addition: the curved grille that covers the air inlet to the intake trumpets. The launching of the P34

It is well known that at SpotModel we do everything possible to incorporate the best and biggest amount of information possible in the description of the products we offer, because not only we LOVE building scale models: we also LOVE the world of motors and their history, even if sometimes we have made mistakes in the interpretation of a certain event. And the thing is, who hasn't made a mistake every now and then? XD

One of our passionate, expert and focused clients recently told us about his knowledge and experiences, giving his two cents to one of the latest references launched by Studio27, the transkit of the Tyrrell P34 in 1/20 scale for the Tamiya scale model. So the question is: when did the P34 debut? Do you have to take as a landmark the first official GP in which it raced or the first time it participated in an event, even if that event was not officially scoring?

Jody Scheckter first got behind the wheel of the P34 at the 1976 BRDC International Trophy held at Silverstone. In fact, when searching for pictures, it is usual to find pictures of Jody in the P34, interpreting that the third place he achieved in this race was with this car. But this is when our expert customers show all their knowledge and guide us towards what really happened, and that is that due to a lack of confidence with the new model just presented, Scheckter finally raced with the usual Tyrrell 007, leaving the official racing debut of the P34 for the next event, the 1976 Spanish Grand Prix held at the Jarama circuit. And another very interesting fact is that the Tyrrell P34 presented at Silverstone is the only one that was fitted with the high air intake, since they were forbidden precisely from the Spanish GP onwards.

The moral of the story? If the car shows a high air intake in a picture, it will be before May 1976, which is the version of the Studio27 transkit.

Accelerator, by Tamiya

When we scale modellers sit down to assemble a model, we seek tranquility, we enjoy slowness, we train patience and the total and absolute absence of any kind of rush. Scale modeling requires calm, steady hands and perseverance. We all agree, right? Well, now Tamiya comes saying the exact opposite with their accelerator... XD

The worst thing is that they are absolutely right, because sometimes we run out of the tremendous amount patience and serenity that our models require and we want to speed things up a bit, such as when attaching a tiny antenna, a very small cable or a stubborn rim. And this is where Tamiya comes in with their drying accelerator for cyanoacrylate glue. They haven't really invented anything new, since the solution has been sold for years by other manufacturers, but if Tamiya offers it, then be sure that we are looking at the king of accelerators.

We trust this accelerator so much that at SpotModel we are going to start adding a few drops to each shipment so that it reaches you as soon as possible. Will it work?

Yes, it is. When you think you have seen it all in modeling, then Decalcas comes and surprises you once again. After a careful inspection of the samples that they have sent us of their next products (see description below), we think that, in fact, the matter has gotten out of hand.

We have taken the picture that you see in the header, in which you simply cannot appreciate the level of detail, precision and finesse of the pieces, yet it is a clear example of what they have done. Interplanetary technology must be what they use to produce these pieces, modeler's word.

Volvo by Highlight Model Studio

Eero Kumanto had a dream: to recreate a model of the Volvo 240 as it circulates in some places in Finland. The idea came from seeing a Volvo parked in a quiet area of the city. He got to work and designed some photo-etched parts that significantly help improve the appearance of the model. Once the model was assembled, Eero was so satisfied with the result that he decided to share it and give everyone who wanted the opportunity to create a model of a personalized street Volvo. This is how the Highlight Model Studio reference was born to detail and make variants of the Volvo 240 scale models that so many modelers wanted to have.

We all have scale modeling dreams, surely you have yours. Do you want to share them? Would you like them to come true? The hard truth

In today's newsletter, we're going to reveal to you a secret that will shake the very foundations of your scale modeling world. Please don't tell anyone, but some manufacturers are more expensive than others, and their quality standards also differ. Incredible, isn’t it?

But here’s another big truth, the usual rule of thumb of "the more expensive, the better" doesn't always apply: there are cheap parts by some rising manufacturers with a "how the hell do they make that?" quality level, as well as seasoned manufacturers that may have lowered their standards to "why the hell did they make that?" on some products. Of course, we have to offer products for every public and taste so you can decide on which sections of your scale model you want to add an detail up set or save some bucks instead, but the thing is: how do you tell which case is which for every single product?

We carefully review every one of them and carefully write our product description, but it's just ONE opinion, and clearly thousands of eyes see way better than just ours, right? So we're ready for you to start giving your own opinions on any of the more than sixty thousand references you can find at SpotModel.

Talking about hard truths? We will only show you the option if we can prove that you have seen it in your hands (this is, you have bought it, and it has been shipped already), and will validate each one of your comments before publishing it to avoid disrespectful language or dishonest opinions (if your dog ate your decals, it's not a manufacturing problem: the problem is your dog) , but we will NEVER EVER reject an opinion because it says that a product has a problem, or that it is low quality, or that it is the best thing that has happened in your life since the invention of the cyanoacrylate: if that's what it is, that's what it is

Last lap

We are in the last lap of this year 2023, there are barely a few days left until it ends. And like the best drivers, we are already looking ahead to the next race, 2024.

Like those pilots, we think over the race we are finishing, the right and the wrong decisions made (in our case, scale-modeling wise) and we learn to face the next challenge with more experience, with more wisdom and with more desire.

It is time to think "from the pits" about what our strategy is going to be: what are we going to build in the coming months, what contests do we want to win or simply enjoy, or what new experimental technique are we going to use to be the King of the "Likes"... XD

Of course, in the lap of honour we want to thank all the scale modellers in the world for your patience with the manufacturers' delays, for your generosity in placing huge orders at SpotModel, for your understanding in the event of any possible issue, for your flattering comments and positive ratings... but above all for just being there, because SpotModel would be nothing without all of you.
