12-boxer

A boxer engine with 12 cylinders was the commitment of Ferrari to motorize what became the most powerful sports car on the market at the time, the Ferrari Testarossa.

Tamiya recreated this beauty in 1/24 with great detail, a scale model that we all dreamt of in its day, but that not all of us could get. Now we are in luck since, for a limited time, Tamiya has re-edited this dream.

Safety first

When a race car goes off the track, sparks can fly around the driver, ending in complicated situations, fires, explosions, ...

To minimize these unpleasant scenarios, the electric cut-off systems were invented, interrupting the electric flow to every device on the car, and the fire extinguishing firing systems, which activate a fire extinguisher that helps putting out any possible flame that may light.

Track marshalls identify these security systems thanks to stickers that have an "E" and a "lightning bolt", and the lads at Decalcas offer us a sheet of decals for 1/20 and 1/24 scales with assorted designs of these icons, so important to give more realism to our models.

On the way!!

The wait has been long, but we have good news: the Opel Manta 400 by Belkits are finally on their way. Great!!!!

The container with the models has departed from the Far East by ship a few days ago, and its arrival to Europe is estimated by the end of February, so we guess you could finaly have the model on top of your workbench by the beginning of March. You could track that valued vessel via GPS here, crossing the Suez canal and finally arriving to the Mediterranean next week (passing right in front of us by just a few kilometers!), or you could just take a walk on the Brugge port by February 20th and behold her glorious arrival to Europe

Toy Fair 2018

We have just returned from the Nuremberg International Toy Fair, the biggest event in Europe for scale modeling manufacturers. In this fair they present all the new releases for this year and... how awesome are them all!!!

Just a few words on a few of them: Tamiya has specially surprised us with the Ferrari SF70H in 1/20 scale that you can already preoder at SpotModel (and that we will receive by the end of February), the Ferrari LaFerrari with the body moulded in yellow plastic, the new laquer paints, a fantastic range of scribers, and also the reedition of the Caterham Super Seven with BDR engine in 1/12 scale; Belkits presented the 2017 season Ford Fiesta RS WRC; Revell showed the Ford GT 2017 along with all the product reissues from other years, as is the case of the 1/16 scale Porsche 356 cabrio or the VW T1 used by Porsche in the races of that time.

30 years

It's year 1988, the Formula 1 World Championship starts, and McLaren fits the carbon monocoque of its lightweight with a Honda 1500cc V6 engine with two turbos that generated 685 horsepower. This machine is considered by car experts as the best F1 in history. Awesome!!!

30 years have passed since the birth of this mechanical wonder, and Alain Prost said the very day he could test it: "This car is going to be fast as hell". The MP4/4 won 15 of the 16 races of 1988, with 10 doubles in 1st and 2nd position and 15 poles, leading 1,003 of the 1,031 laps of the whole championship. Prost wasn't wrong at all

BMW 2002 Turbo

The first European commercial vehicle fitted with a turbo was created by BMW, and it was called BMW 2002 Turbo. A machine that saw the light thanks to the developments by BMW Motorsport on a turbo KKK, and that stood out for its additional wheel arch flaps in the body and the striking vinyls that decorated it.

This picture, showing some of the modelers whose work has been awarded in the "Jabbeke on the road" show/contest held this past weekend at Belgium, sums up quite well what we have experienced: scale modeling, friends and fun.

There was SpotModel enjoying the event and broadcasting in almost real time everything that happened there: hundreds of scale models of cars, trucks and motorcycles; encounters between new and old friends; lots of laughs and good times around our favorite hobby.

Still enjoying the after taste left in our mouths at Belgium (literally!), we are already packing our bags again, because this weekend we will travel to the biggest spanish modeling contest, held at Leganés (Madrid). We are also looking forward to arrive!

Leganes 2018

This weekend we went to the biggest scale modeling contest in Spain, held at Leganes (Madrid), where in addition we also had the honor of being part of the "judges". Being a judge (well, acting as such for a while) is a quite complex and complicated task, but it does have one huge advantage: to be able to see all the models really really close, calmly, with time to spare, and with an analytical eye.

Thanks to that, we were able to hallucinate with the absolute perfection of the Honda RC166 that achieved the Special Gold Medal on the civilians models category, and that was on the verge of becoming the Best Work of the Contest. Absolutely delicious
