Magnus Walker

There is no doubt that Magnus Walker is a truly peculiar person. We met him a while ago at a car event, we took some selfies and chatted briefly. And what is the misfortune of poor Magnus Walker? Well, he likes cars, especially Porsches, like many of us. He owns quite a nice collection of them BUT...

...poor Magnus found out that the collection of cars we have is SO much bigger than his, and that made him very envious, he can't sleep well at night and he does not even feel like shaving XD. Of course we didn't tell him that our car collection is in 1/12, 1/20 and 1/43 scale... shhhhhhh

Renntransporter

If you see pictures of a Renntransporter it is absolutely inevitable that a smile draws on your face, since it is a mixture of beauty and inventiveness: a T1 van with a modified chassis and elongated body to accommodate a racing car...

These gorgeous inventions are a thing of the past, and given that will be really difficult to get hold of one of them in real life, we settle for modifying the Hasegawa scale model using the transkit just announced by USCP: a few fantastic resins and a straight-to-the-shelf build. Magnificent!!!

If you, like us, get goosebumps when you hear a boxer engine pass by and you also like modern motorcycles with a retro look, we are really lucky because today's headline is the announcement by Meng of the release of the BMW R nineT in 1/9 scale. Goosebumps everywhere!!

First they released the H2R, then the H2, weeks ago the GT40 and now they surprise us with this gorgeous BMW. They are really on fire!! We don't have any details yet, we don't know anything about the parts list or the arrival date, but we are delighted with what we think is a great decision

The heart of the BMW M3 E30 is a BMW MPower S14 M3 engine, a mechanical marvel that has become a legend in automotive history with dozens of victories in both gravel, open road and track races, and that nowadays it keeps on making your legs shake.

In the world of scale modeling there was an important void that was luckily filled some time ago by Beemax, Aoshima and Nunu in the form of a BMW M3 E30 kit. We have all assembled this model, we have put beautiful decorations on it and we have recreated every single screw... but it was crying out for having a proper heart, right? Just in 1982, he started nine races and managed to climb six times to the top of the podium. Year 1983 came and again he won six of the 10 races that he entered. Paint and Go!

Sometimes we think that we have seen everything as far as the scale modeling scene is concerned, yet luckily new things keep appearing to surprise us. This week the award goes to Decalcas for the latest idea they had, really simple but at the same time very useful for all of use who seek to get down the ultimate detail, and also for those of us who seek productivity in our assemblies.

Well, these lads just released the Paint and Go range of parts cast in an almost completely black resin, allowing you to paint directly with your favorite metallic color without having to apply a shiny black base first.

What do you get out of it? On the one hand, you save time and work in applying the black base, and on the other (and this is what we see most interesting) you will be able to preserve all details in these absolutely tiny parts since you will be applying one less coat of paint.

You can now put half a dozen of these gorgeous fittings in your SpotModel shopping cart, they are quite an invention. Paint and go, we love it!!!

King of the Hill

Bobby Unser might not be well known outside of North America, but he is quite a legend there. He won the USAC National Championships and CART in 1968 and 1974, and was runner-up in 1970, 1979 and 1980, and third in 1967, 1969, and 1975. He won the Indianapolis 500 Miles in 1968, 1975, and 1981, and finished second in 1974, third in 1969, fifth in 1979 and sixth in 1978. He won the Pocono 500 Miles in 1980 and the Ontario 500 Miles in 1974, 1976, 1979 and 1980. In the Indy he obtained a total of 35 scoring victories and 83 podiums, and he triumphed at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb thirteen times. He won the International Race of Champions in 1975, participated in the Formula 1 1968 Italian Grand Prix and the 1968 United States Grand Prix, took part in three NASCAR Grand National Series races between 1969 and 1973... and surely we have missed some other victories in this huge list. When he quit racing, Unser worked as a commentator for CART and NASCAR on the television NBC, ABC and ESPN networks.

Color flares

Like a cool summer breeze... that's how we have welcomed the new Number Five paints at SpotModel. With an eye-catching packaging and with different product ranges, the little bottles are parading in front of our excited eyes while an unstoppable desire to storm out of the office and try them is growing inside us, because they look REALLY good.

At this moment, two product ranges are available and in stock: the basic range, where we find the standard colors to use on all types of parts; and the specific, including the color tones that match specific models and brands of actual vehicles, designed to be used in their corresponding model reproductions in scale.

The lads at Number Five told us that they have been documenting for years visiting museums and private collections of racing cars and motorcycles, looking for the greatest similarity to real life tones but with the necessary adaptations to give maximum realism in scale reproductions. They also told us that their paints are ready to be used with an airbrush, without the need of adding thinner or mix them with other products, and feature really short drying times. COOL!!

As said before, at SpotModel we are looking forward to trying them... and we are not going to leave that for tomorrow!!

Contacta clear

Today we are not going to talk about cars, motorcycles or drivers, today we are going to introduce you a new product just arrived that we LOVED, so we felt like it deserved to be highlighted. It is called Contacta Clear by Revell and it is an acrylic glue that dries completely transparent. It surprises at first sight due to its density, it is served in a bottle with 20 grams of product (about 17ml) and it also includes an application brush on the lid.

It is designed to glue plastic parts, especially the transparent parts, since once dry it's really difficult to point where the glue is. Magic? It certainly is, and of the good kind. As if that were not enough, the product is also really cheap and we can send it everywhere on this planet.

At SpotModel we are currently studying the possibility of shipping to Mars... but it seems that there are still few modelers in the area XD (although there are already a few scale models up there!

Shizuoka 2021

The largest event for worldwide scale modeling manufacturers has been held in Shizuoka for no less than 59 years. This year has been a little strange due to the circumstances that are limiting us all, but that has not detracted anything from the event. So let's cut the introduction and let's go directly to what interests us... cars and motorcycles scale models!!!

Aoshima has announced the LB Works Lamborghini Huracan v.1 for which we are sure we will see interesting liveries (Mad Mike's, pretty please!!!). Hasegawa has presented ... ermmmmmm.... ummmmm.... nothing, let's move to the next booth. Ebbro showed the Lotus Ford 005 and the remix of the Lotus 33 Coventry Climax based on the Tamiya Lotus 25. And now it's Nunu's turn, with the Volvo S40 and Lotus 99t prototypes (in 1/12 scale!!!). We run to the Tamiya booth that presents the re-edition of the Sauber Mercedes C9 to which they added some photo-etched parts, as well as the re-edition of the BT44B in 1/12 scale, the re-edition of the Nissan Fairlady 240ZG, and the premiere of the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP Black. And I think we can go to the bar now... XD

The whole staff at SpotModel would have loved to attend, but we have been really busy building models... so it will have to be next year ;D

Fujimi has arrived

A few minutes ago we heard a powerful sound: the engine of the huge truck that brought us our long-awaited shipment of Fujimi scale models, supposedly arriving a few weeks ago. Between the virus, the delay due to maritime transport issues and many others problems, the dates have been pushed back way more than we liked but finally the supply has arrived. Hooray!!!

At the moment we have our whole SpotModel troop of minions downloading models like crazy and between today and tomorrow we will finish sorting all the material and adding everything to our stock: Ferrari 250 GTO, BMW M5, several versions of 917s and 911s, GT40... How glad we are to see them all back again while we walk through the alleys! XD

By the end of the 20s of the last century, Bentley engineers created a 4500cc engine and planted it in all the 720 units of their newest car model. And as if that weren't enough, 55 of those units get also a turbocharger. And as if it wasn't a big deal, one of these is taken to race at Le Mans. And what happened? Well, not much, only that it won the race...

Many years pass until Airfix converts in 1971 the Bentley 4.5L Blower Supercharged that won Le Mans in 1928 into an interesting 1/12 scale model, which has been reissued on several occasions and which we are now lucky to have on the shelves again.

The kit includes decals printed by Cartograf and is full of nice details despite the age of the molds. A straight-from-the-box assembly that with very few self-made parts undoubtedly translates into a really interesting and essential build in your showcase.

Will any manufacturer release new parts for both the 1/12 scale reedition and/or the 1/24 version? At the moment we only know that Number Five has already gone ahead by offering us the color tone to paint the Bentley 4.5L Blower Supercharged.

And if we put a turbo to the SpotModel website... could we win at Le Mans?
